ICMM’s 2022–24 Strategy saw members take bold steps toward responsible mining—advancing commitments on net zero emissions, biodiversity, human rights, mine closure, and waste reduction. These efforts prove that mining can be a force for good. But with 25,000 mining companies operating globally, scaling this progress is essential.

Even among those committed to responsible practices—including all ICMM members—there is still work to do. Preventing fatalities, strengthening tailings management, embedding human rights due diligence, and supporting responsible mine closure remain critical challenges.

As we enter a new era for ICMM in 2025, we bring with us a blueprint for responsible mining, a sharper focus on driving sustainability performance, and a commitment to uniting stakeholders around a shared vision.

Our 2025–29 Strategy is built on three priorities:

Performance: Turning commitments into real-world impact, with a focus on safety, decarbonisation, nature, tailings, and social performance.

Standards: Delivering a Consolidated Mining Standard to provide a clear, universal framework for responsible mining.

Dialogue & Engagement: Bringing together diverse voices to build shared solutions and drive collective action.
