Nine months after suffering the first knockout loss of his storied career, Hawai‘i’s Max Holloway returns to the Octagon on Saturday to defend his BMF championship in the main event of UFC 318.

Holloway, a Waianae native and future UFC Hall of Famer, will face longtime rival Dustin Poirier in a highly anticipated lightweight bout at the Smoothie King Center in Poirier’s home state of Louisiana. It marks the third meeting between the two fighters and will serve as Poirier’s final professional fight before retirement.

Holloway (26-8) holds the UFC record for most significant strikes landed with 3,706 and is aiming to make a statement in the 155-pound division. A win would not only retain his BMF belt but also avenge previous losses to Poirier in 2012 and 2019.

“Everybody keeps asking if I’d give Dustin the final 10-second point down if we make it to the last round,” Holloway said at Thursday’s press conference. “I was like, man, Dustin might beat me to it. That’s the kind of guy he is. Look at his fights, look at my fights, show me one boring one. We’re cut from the same cloth.”
