The Lilo & Stitch live-action remake made some big changes to Jumba—and not in a good way. In the original 2002 animated film, Jumba’s thick Russian accent and quirky personality made him unforgettable. But in the remake, he just sounds like Zach Galifianakis—and kind of looks like him, too. Instead of rocking his alien form, Jumba (and Pleakley) just turn into humans, which honestly feels like a budget-saving move rather than a creative choice. Worse, Jumba doesn’t redeem himself by the end like he did in the original. He actually replaces Gantu as the main villain, which totally changes the heart of the story and his character arc. But there’s a tiny hint that Disney might fix this in a sequel. When Pleakley mentions Jumba’s full name—Jumba Jookiba—he’s about to ask if he knows someone with the same last name before the convo cuts off. That could mean a future sequel might introduce another Jookiba, like a brother or cousin, who’s more like the original Jumba fans love. It’d be a big retcon, sure—but it might be Disney’s way of making things right.
