We are back with more positive vybes from the Caribbean. Today we explore Calypso music from the 1970s & 1980s. In these songs you can hear both the roots of this dance music style and the seeds of Soca, the style which would soon after these recordings evolve from Calypso. Almost ever island in the region has their own unique form of this genre. In this show we focus mainly on the artists and songs of Trinidad & Tobago where Calypso originated, Barbados an early adopter of the style. However we also mix in Calypso from Jamaica as a sneak peek of a future show where we will focus solely on the pre-Reggae music of that island.
