In 1987, Thomas Sankara said, “Kill Sankara and a thousand Sankaras will be born”. It's been 37 years since Sankara made this statement and today, we see the reality of this statement in the person of President Traore. Right from the beginning, Traore distinguished himself as an African leader with a mindset similar to that of Thomas Sankara. And, all his actions since he became the leader of Burkina Faso, are reminiscent of Sankara’s actions. In a move that reflects selflessness as a leader, Traore offered up his salary for the betterment of his country. But why did he make this move? Let's find out.

Burkina Faso has been thriving once again under the leadership of President Traore, just like it was during the time of Thomas Sankara. You see, Traore has proven that he is not like the typical African leader driven by greed and accumulating wealth through public funds. It's not a surprise that most African politicians and leaders are usually among the richest in their countries. In fact, aside from getting power, money is one of the major reasons why they choose to join the politics of the country. And, we all know how they get that wealth. Not just from their salary as government officials but more importantly from bribery and corruption, and diverting public funds for personal use.
