When Benazir Bhutto was elected Prime Minister of Pakistan, she became the first woman to lead a Muslim-majority country. She served during the height of the Cold War - from 1988 to 1990 and again from 1993 to 1996. During her time in office, she focused on social and economic reforms and education. Her life and legacy are contested. Was she an icon of progress for women’s rights? Or is her legacy tarnished by corruption and misrule?
