I’m aaskeew, and this is House Through Time—a series exploring the roots and evolution of house music from Chicago’s underground dance floors to its global impact today.

Today we tunnel straight into mid‑’80s Chicago, when a half‑abandoned bass synth called the Roland TB‑303 met DJs with nothing to lose and endless curiosity. One of those DJs, Ron Hardy, slammed an untitled demo from a trio called Phuture onto the Music Box system; dancers dubbed it “Ron Hardy’s Acid Trax,” and the rest is squelchy history .In those after‑hours basements, Black and queer kids—shut out of mainstream clubs after Disco Demolition—found a new way to talk to each other: hypnotic 4/4 kicks, hissy 707 snares, and that wobbling 303 line that felt like the future melting in real time. Acid house was punk in attitude, DIY in production, and radically inclusive on the floor. That spirit still hums inside every filter‑tweaked bassline you’ll hear in this mix.

How to listen? Same rules as always: cook, study, doom‑scroll, daydream—just let the resonance ride and remember that “acid” was never about one drug or one club; it was about turning limitations into new worlds.
