I chose Hydra as the title for my piece because for me the Monastery of Brou is a disproportionate monument that surpasses us and subjugates us like a kind of monster. My idea is to try to tame it, to invest it through dance, through people and through music. (Yuval Pick)
With this 2016 creation, choreographer Yuval Pick responds to a commission from the Center des Monuments Nationaux. In “Hydre”, he invites you to discover the Royal Monastery of Brou in three stages. It all starts with the audience being welcomed by three dancers. These lead to the second stage in the monastery church. There, a duo, made up of two dancers, displays their movements accompanied by a sound system designed for the site. Finally, as a closing, the public is invited to go to the monastery cloister to witness the final choreography of five dancers.
