This is a Motormouth first look at the all-new 2025 North American Volkswagen ID. Buzz coming later next year.
1. The North American ID. Buzz is quite different from the European model. This is a 3-row vehicle where the European model is only 2 rows.
The North American ID. Buzz offers a longer wheelbase, a larger battery and more power than the European model. It provides more space for people and cargo as well.
2. The ID. Buzz will have RWD and AWD models available.
All models come with a 1-speed transmission, the standard RWD model has a 91 kWh battery and 282 horsepower. An available AWD model with dual motors has 330 horsepower and a maximum torque number of 406 lb-ft. The new electric motor of the ID. Buzz increases the top speed to an electronically limited 99 mph up from the European model of 90 mph.
3. The exterior of the ID. Buzz retains its traditionally boxy shape with short overhangs but has a more modern look now.
It is 192.4” in length, nearly 10” longer than the two-row ID.Buzz in Europe. All that additional length comes from a 127.5” wheelbase vs 117.6” for the two-row. It is 77.9” wide and 74.6” tall making it roughly as wide as an Atlas but 5” taller. That’s a lot bigger than the original bus which was about as long as the 2019 Beetle. It has a drag co-efficient of 0.29 which is pretty good considering its boxy design.
4. There are some vintage features and bright and fun exterior colour options for the
ID. Buzz, most are bright and fun.
The futuristic ID. Buzz has some retro cues like the iconic large VW logo which is illuminated with a light line that extends to either side connecting the LED headlights. Bold and fun exterior colours are available like Energetic Orange, Pomelo Yellow, Mahi Green and Cabana Blue. More toned down colour options are available like silver and grey and there’s also an available two-tone colour palette. The Buzz comes standard with 20” wheels, power folding and heated exterior mirrors and a power tailgate with a kick sensor.
5. The interior is spacious, modern and has a bit of a retro feel just like the exterior with a removable centre console for flexibility.
The centre console includes flexible storage on top with two dividers that double as a bottle opener and ice scraper as well as two additional storage compartments below.
The Buzz offers a high seating position with standard 12-way power driver and passenger seats with dual armrests, ventilation, massage and memory functions, a heated steering wheel and heated front seats as well as heated outboard second row seats. All three-rows have dedicated air vents and second and third row windows are tinted.
Second row seats can be folded down in a 60:40 split and the seatbacks can be raked by 16 degrees. The bench can also be moved fore and aft by up to 7.9” and can be moved forward by 4” with the touch of a handle for easy access into the third row.
Seating for 7 is standard and captain’s chairs are available with seating for 6. The second and third rows fold flat and the third row can be removed completely. An available flex board with two fabric storage bins creates a flat floor with the seats folded.
6. There are plenty of interior colour options to choose from for your ID.Buzz
The Buzz has leatherette upholstery with three colour options, a dark brown and black combination with white piping, light grey and clay combination with clay coloured piping and light brown with yellow piping. Ambient lighting with 30 colours is standard and allows drivers to select from 5 pre-set moods or choose different areas individually.
7. There is an available panoramic sunroof that changes from clear to opaque with the swipe of a finger.
This sunroof is 67.4” long and 40.8” wide making this the largest of any sunroof in the Volkswagen Group. Coating in the glass helps to reflect sunlight to help reduce the heat that could enter the vehicle on those hot days.
8. The ID.Buzz gets all the latest technology with an updated infotainment system just like the ID.7
The touch sliders for volume and temperature have been illuminated and the infotainment screen has the climate functions at the bottom of the display allowing easy access when needed. The top bar has a new direct access function on the left which opens the main menu.
9. IQ. Drive, VW’s Driver Assist Technology is standard on the Buzz.
It includes features like lane centering and a capacitive steering wheel to help make driving easier on the highway. In the city, IQ. Drive helps alert you to obstacles in front of you, road sign display is standard as well as blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Available features include, a head-up display, park assist with remote parking and a 360 area view.
