The Fate grind continues.

I’ll protect you from everything is one of the most recurring themes in Heaven’s Feel and its motifs come up quite a bit. Every scene it’s in is deeply emotional, and the mournful falling notes seem to convey the deep pangs of sadness inherent in the story as well.

And in contrast, the major section seems to give a sense of hope that shares in the passion of Shirou’s conviction to save Sakura, which stands in contrast to the hopeless feeling of the inevitability of her outcomes.

Maybe that’s why it stands out more to me than the other OSTs. Sure, Four Rings is hype and the Emiya theme always gets me in whatever form it takes, but I’ll protect you from everything just has a special ambiance to it that makes me emotional. It’s a perfect representation of Shirou and Sakura’s relationship in so many ways.

When I was arranging this, I again ran into the issue that I usually have when working with slower songs, namely that of trying to fill in all the empty space. On a whim, I decided to try repeating the melody in the left hand a measure after the right hand plays it, almost like a canon, and it somehow worked so I stuck with it. It got even better when I realized how it brought out the falling notes, so in the next repeat of the theme I repeat the broken chord in all three voices to make it feel as though the descent is continuous and really hits rock bottom. It really adds an interesting feel to the overall arrangement, and I was quite happy with that random stroke of inspiration.

Oh and I totally didn't rip the left hand from Chopin's Revolutionary Etude at the end.

My playing wasn’t the greatest, seeing as I recorded it the same day as Blue Streetlights and The flower will bloom. Maybe I’ll redo it in the future for a Fate album if I ever get around to finishing the rest of the pieces I need to learn.

Anyways, I hope you’re not tired of listening to Fate music yet cuz I’ve got a lot more left in the tank.
