Lithium shortages could become a significant issue by the end of the decade, but researchers at Flinders University are stepping up with a promising solution: polymer-modified aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs).
Zinc is not only cheaper and more abundant than lithium but also safer.
However, the polymer used in AZIBs currently accounts for 90% of the battery's cost.
