The World's Columbian Exposition, also known as The World's Fair, was held in Chicago, Illinois from May to October 1893 to commemorate the quadricentennial anniversary of Christopher Columbus' voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. The exposition was a remarkable event for many reasons, not least of which were its three full-scale reproductions of the _Pinta,_ _Niña,_ and _Santa_ _María_ which were constructed in Spain and sailed to Chicago. It's also worth mentioning that the mayor of Chicago at the time, Carter Harrison III, was murdered in his home two days before the exposition was scheduled to end. The banjo featured in this video may have been part of a collection that was displayed at the fair by the Lyon & Healy musical instrument company, although to me it looks more like it was made by Rettberg & Lange in New York City. A.C. Fairbanks out of Boston also had instruments on display at the Columbian Exposition, including his new "Electric" model.
