DJ Yella detailed an unsettling financial encounter orchestrated by the late manager Jerry Heller. Yella recounted an episode in which he was summoned to receive a check for $93,000. Believing it to be part of his earnings, DJ Yella was instead directed by Heller to an accountant, who swiftly informed him that he owed $93,000 in taxes. Despite not having earned enough to warrant such a tax liability, young and inexperienced Yella handed over the check, leaving him without expected funds in hand. This transaction, according to Yella, effectively swindled him out of the money, evidenced by his assertion that he had not earned the $300,000 required to rack up such taxes.
