In the 1950s Atlantic Records produced some of the best R&B sounds around. Many of these R&B artists developed into very successful soul singers in the 1960s. The Drifters were a great example of this and Ahmet Ertegun called them, “the all-time greatest Atlantic group”.
Atlantic Records formed a close relationship with Stax but, sadly for Stax, that relationship didn't end well.
The label went on to embraced rock music and signed Led Zeppelin in 1969.
Still a force to be reckoned with, Atlantic Records is truly one of the Titans of the recording world.
