Artistry and originality are dead in gymnastics, but it's not the gymnast's fault. Over the years, the FIG has changed the rules to value only difficulty instead of grace, artistry, and uniqueness. This results in boring formulaic routines with jam-packed tumbling and acrobatics. I think a balance needs to be struck to bring back the former creativity of routines without leaving out the difficulty of today's routines.
