Jackie caught a glimpse of Shadow flying in and he was carrying a long curved stick in his talons as she was squeeing “good morning!” She hurried out the back porch, so he quickly headed toward the bowl. He seemed excited with the new stick in his beak as it was dangling to-and-fro! After placing the stick, he looked down and gave the eggs a stare. He quizzically looked up, then back at the eggs again. He understood the assignment and went to work like any new father would!
He gently cleaned up the bowl of any loose sticks and also rolled the eggs with his beak, so nothing will stick to the shells later when they begin to hatch. After his meet ‘n greet with Egg#3 on Weds, Shadow brought in 3 meals for Jackie and then 3 more fish yesterday. If he keeps this up, Jackie and their trio will never go hungry! This beloved mom and dad are definitely going to have their talons full!
Shadow was also up to his old antics of placing a stick on Jackie's back to get her off the eggs so he could incubate… it worked! Last night, Jackie spent a lovely evening and some quiet moments with the precious eggs before she turned in and tucked her head in her wing.
Oh just one more thing… after Egg#3 was laid, they surprised us all the next day by taking the opportunity to sneak away to the Stick Depot Snag tree (SDS) for a quick afternoon mating session (yes, they're quick!) which could mean there's a possibility of a 4th egg coming today Jan 31. Their talons are already full, but if this is the case, another little addition would indeed be welcomed into the family with open wings!
