Who's ready for another unique stay?! A few weeks ago, we packed our bags and planned another fun getaway, this time to a cozy off-grid camping cabin in the woods. If you're not the biggest fan of camping, this might be the right fit for you because a camping cabin does offer certain comforts like a real mattress and a wood-burning stove to keep you warm at night! But you still get the nature experiences with evening campfires, forest hikes, and everything else that comes with a camping trip.

One of the things we really enjoyed about this particular place was the forest art trail, which is exactly what it sounds like. This property has a big hiking trail that loops through the woods with lots of little treasures along the way. Pictures ceramic sculptures, fairy houses, and forest creatures hidden at the base of tree trunks or looking down from tree branches - it felt like a treasure hunt.

The tiny cabin we stayed in is actually meant for 4 people, so this is a trip you could do with friends. The one thing to keep in mind is that you do have to bring your own bedding, so sleeping bags, pillows and perhaps a warm fleece blanket.

Here's the link to the listing in case you'd also like to try staying in this camping cabin:

🏡✨ Cozy Tiny Cabin Stay in Severn Bridge, Ontario | Canada Spring Road Trip 🌲🚗

🌧️ Road Trip Vibes & Rural Escapes

Join us (Sam and Audrey) as we embark on a springtime road trip north of Toronto, escaping city life for a rustic cabin adventure in Severn Bridge, Ontario. With rain rolling in (as always!), we take scenic backroads through farmland and forests, soaking in countryside views and avoiding busy highways.

🍔 Classic Canadian Road Food Stop

No road trip is complete without a legendary food stop! We hit up Weber’s for iconic charcoal-grilled burgers, classic diner fries, and poutine—plus a nod to local food culture with a visit to a roadside eatery set in vintage train cars. Even on a rainy afternoon, the place is bustling—a testament to its reputation!

🦉 Cabin Tour: The Owl Suite

Welcome to our tiny home for the night—the “Owl Suite”! This compact, one-room cabin features bunk beds, a wood-burning stove, and rustic decor. Pro tip: bring your own bedding (or rent from the main house). We stake out our spots closest to the fire, knowing a chilly spring night is ahead.

🔥 Getting the Fire Going: Essential Cabin Life

Starting the wood stove is key! We share fire-building tips, buy kindling and logs on the honor system, and finally get the cabin toasty warm. It’s a throwback to childhood sleepovers—mattresses by the fire, sharing stories, and preparing for a cozy night in the woods.

🌲 Exploring the Property: Decks, Trails & Outhouses

The outdoor space is perfect for lounging, with a porch deck, picnic table, fire pits, and trails winding through the property. We check out the composting toilet (the “number one only” bathroom) and discover other showers and facilities in the main building for summer use.

🎨 Forest Art Walk & Nature Hike

Next, we wander the “Forest Art Trail,” spotting whimsical sculptures, fairy figures, and positive messages—an inspiring and family-friendly addition to the property. Surrounded by the sounds of nature, we encounter mud, marshes, and mossy rocks, grateful for our waterproof boots and the tranquility of the woods.

🧁 Cabin Snacks & Canadian Treats

Back in the warmth, it’s snack time: velvet cupcakes, kettle chips, spicy dill pickle chips, and the classic Canadian ketchup chips. (If you’ve never tried them, add them to your Canadian food bucket list!) We settle in for a cozy evening by the fire, embracing the slow cabin life.

🌙 Sleeping by the Fire & A Chilly Night

With temperatures dropping, we arrange our mattresses beside the fire, layering up with fleece blankets and sleeping bags. Regular “fire duty” keeps us toasty through the night—a lesson learned from a past yurt adventure!

🌞 Morning Routine & Hearty Breakfast

The next morning, we tidy up the cabin and head to Blue Moon Junction Cottage Bar & Grill for a classic, greasy diner brunch: Western sandwiches, omelets, crispy potatoes, and strong coffee. It’s the perfect fuel for a day of hiking.

🥾 Muddy Boots, Marshes & Conservation Trails

After breakfast, we hit the Alexander Hope Conservation Trail for a peaceful walk among mossy rocks, marshland, and towering trees. The woods are quiet—just us, the mud, and the distant calls of hidden wildlife.
