10.12.2020 был осуществлёи испытальный полёт прототипа Старшипа SN-8 на высоту 12,5 км. Программа полёта включала аэродинамическое маневрирование аппарата в атмосфере при отработке посадки. На завершающем этапе посадки мощность двигателей или время их работы оказались недостаточными, что привело к удару аппарата о посадочную площадку и взрыву, разрушившему аппарат. В целом испытание признано успешным. Получена вся необходимая информация для следующего этапа разработки.
