In my view, Ulver's 2nd studio album, 'Kveldssanger' (translated 'Twilight Songs') is the pinnacle of guitar oriented dark folk music and the prime example of a black metal aesthetic conveyed via the acoustic guitar. In particular, I've always been captured by this strange and haunting track called 'Halling.' There's a video on YouTube (which I'll link below) in which this piece is used as a background for a clip from the French experimental animated film 'Fantastic Planet.' Both the video clip and the song have a disturbing quality which starkly contrast the vivid animation and bright auditory valence of the major key. Although this piece contains only one chord, it was a nightmare to arrange for a single acoustic guitar.
