Powell and Bundrage scored a double knockdown in the opening seconds of their fight. However, referee Dick Flaherty did not rule a knockdown for either fighter. Both fighters quickly regained their feet, but seconds later, Powell floored Bundrage again. Bundrage immediately got up from the knockdown, but he stumbled around the ring and fell twice more, forcing the referee to stop the fight after just twenty-two seconds of action.
