It’s Valentine’s day, so it’s time for some OSTs from one of my favorite romance anime!

I first watched the show in July the week after I made and uploaded my “What is Musicality” video, which was by far the largest project I’d worked on so far at the time. After being pestered by my friend to watch the show, I finally relented and gave it a shot.

It was great. Sure, some of the romcom elements weren’t my cup of tea, but the character growth and development was super interesting and well written. The show was good enough that I even read the whole manga afterwards because I wanted to know what would happen.

And dang, I loved the ending. I think I had to think about it a bit before I fully accepted it, but once I did I was super on board. No spoilers though, so if you want to argue with me why it was bad you’ll have to do it in my Discord (shameless plug).

But what made the read more riveting by far was the fact that in the last few chapters I had the OSTs from Season 2 playing, and in the climax I had these two on loop. So you know ya boy had to arrange them ASAP.

In fact, this is probably the fastest arrangement I’d done in terms of the number of days I worked on it. I just sat down and arranged. Of course, it was made easier by the fact that both have lots of string/keyboard elements, but I was still intensely motivated by the show and the characters ie. Miku.

And the result? I don’t care what form it happens in (my arrangement or the original), but I want these OSTs played at my wedding (if that ever happens lol).

Yeah, I’m a HUGE fan of Quints. And Miku.

Overall, the strategy for this one was the most straightforward. The melody is carried by the top voice and the supporting notes just serve to convey the texture. I left most of the musical work to be done by my playing itself since I think there’s a lot of space to sing and phrase the melodies, which are really cute and really nice.

The Quintessential Bride definitely feels waltz-y, but with a touch of heaviness. I definitely had a lot of fun working the builds and making it feel more expansive and dancelike.

I personally enjoy Confession more, simply because it starts with a shimmery section, and then has incredibly smooth, lyrical sections with some lines in the middle voice, before it just swells and crests with emotion in the last iteration of the theme. It just reminds me so much of the scene where it plays; every time I play it I’m transported back to that scene and how beautiful it is.

I decided to end with something that felt strong, so I brought back the Quintessential Bride for the ending. It’s just so much fun to play and makes me feel so happy haha.

And I love how in the Quintessential Bride, none of the cadences resolve nicely on I, but instead on IVsus chord. But then, finally, the very last cadence of the piece gives us a resolution on I, which just feels so complete and nice.

Anyways, I’m super excited for the movie, and I hope you enjoyed my performance, The Keys Club favorite!

Until next time,
