The year is 1995 and a young Mike Marcum, a 21-year student of electrical engineering living in Stanberry, Missouri, started working on his goal of building a time machine. His aim? To get rich by going to the future and stealing lottery numbers. He carried out most of his experiments on the back porch of his house, and boy was it a mess. It was the graveyard for home appliances with Televisions, radios, and CDs all over the place.

Mike had been messing around with a device called Jacob’s ladder when he noticed something strange had begun to happen. He was tinkering with Jacob’s ladder, which he had already modified to have a homebuilt electronic transformer with a power of about 20 thousand volts. He had to build the transformer because the standard household voltage in the United States is 120 to 140 volts.
