Korean soprano Sumi Jo has been ordained a Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters, in recognition of "her contribution and commitment to the culture of France." The decoration will be presented to her by Fleur Pellerin, former Minister of Culture (2014-2016) of Korean descent, during a ceremony to be held on May 26 at the Opéra Comique.In July 2024, Sumi Jo, who is also an honorary ambassador of South Korea, launched the Sumi Jo International Singing Competition at the Château de la Ferté-Imbault in the Loire Valley. First prize was won by Chinese baritone Zihao Li, and two French singers received the Jury Prize: Marie Lombard and Juliette Tacchino. The next edition of the competition will take place in 2026.
