We stopped at the cave to rest. The sun was high in the sky, the heat of the open desert unbearable. We had only one day's worth of water and no hope on the horizon. But the air in the cave seemed to be somewhat less dry. Maybe there was a stream somewhere in the deep darkness.We were desperate but still wary of going any deeper, we were not sure of the creatures that might lurk at the bottom of the cave.
