In Hangzhou, especially around the West Lake, the best and most popular canter for gastrologists is Gaoyin Street(高银街). The name "Gaoyin" derives from a virtuous young man living on the street during the South Song Dynasty (1127-1279). According to local legend, that young man's surname is Gao. He was an orphan and led a hard life. One morning on the street, Gao found a bag full of silver ingots (currency used in ancient China). Without taking it, he sat beside the bag and guarded the money, waiting for the owner to return. It turned out the owner was a merchant. He was greatly moved by Gao's altruistic behaviour and then hired him as his assistant. The merchant taught Gao how to do business, and Gao benefited a lot. Through his efforts, Gao became a millionaire himself later. He opened a jewellery shop on the street and brought prosperity into this street. Later, people named the street Gaoyin Street to honour Gao's virtue. (Gao is the surname of the young man and Yin menas "silver" in Chinese)
