Worried that she broke something, the girl apologized but after checking her bike the woman told the girl that she could leave saying the bike was already broken. Indeed the light fixture fell off with the slightest touch.
But the girl didn't leave. They got to talking even went to get ice cream together. And that's when the girl learned her story. This happened in New York. The woman got sick 10 years ago and was bed bound for a while. She couldn't work. She had to undergone surgery. The recovery took longer than planned and she ran out of money. She has 5 kids. All of them were taken from her and put into foster care when she lost her apartment and became homeless.
Since then, she's been working very hard to bring her children back. To prove that she's capable, she does multiple jobs. Whatever job that could pay her including sewage work. She has since stopped celebrating her birthdays. She said she wants to celebrate her kids' birthdays first when she gets them back.
She works 3 jobs a day everyday. She managed to get herself an apartment and has a nice saving after what happened last time. She's fighting with the court to get her children return to her. When her children told her about what they go through including having doors slammed on face, the details isn't clear in the video, but she's heartbroken to hear what they have to go through. The foster family gets $1k per child USD. Per month. So some people see this as a way to make money rather than out of pure desire to help a child.
She's upset by the system but she has to follow the law, she can't just kidnap them back home. She's keeping in contact with all her kids except the eldest girl who after changing foster homes several times has lost contact with the woman. She feels sad that she can't protect her kids better. The only mistake she made was getting sick. It could've happen to anyone. It's unknown where her husband or ex husband is but she's the only parent to the 5 children.
She and the girl have decided to meet up again a year later. Hopefully by then she'll have some good news to share. But she is an incredibly strong woman. She got back up by herself without support.
