The Strangeways Riot began on April 1, 1990, at HMP Manchester. It became the longest and one of the most violent prison riots in British history, lasting 25 days. Inmates protested overcrowding and poor conditions, leading to one death, dozens injured, and major damage to the prison. It sparked a nationwide review of the UK prison system.
