On November 18, 1972, Henry T. Minard was responding to a silent alarm at Mayor's Jewelers in the Hollywood Mall, which was previously directly across the street from Police Headquarters. Officer Minard interrupted a robbery in progress. The suspects, posing as salesmen, ambushed Officer Minard as he entered the store. Officer Minard was shot and died several hours later. The suspects were captured in Massachusetts three days later. One suspect later escaped and was killed in a shoot-out with police. The other suspect appealed, was given a new trial, and was convicted again. We will never forget Officer Minard’s sacrifice to our city and its citizens.
