► Listen to No Place Like Brighton in full with Mumdance on Red Bull Radio

The bass music futurist and RBMA alum takes us on a journey to England’s South Coast.

Jack Adams, AKA Mumdance, has had a rich and varied education in electronic music. Born and raised just outside Brighton, at age 12 he saw the legendary Kemistry & Storm in a park and in 2014 was part of the Red Bull Music Academy. Mumdance is not one to be pigeonholed — with releases on labels as varied as Rinse, Mad Decent and Tectonic, he explains how he was influenced by the punk, post-hardcore and metal he heard in BMX and skate videos, as well as by Wiley’s “Eskimo,” his parent’s record collection and the illegal warehouse parties he went to with university friends.

He details how he discovered his love of drum & bass at raves, record shops and by driving the likes of Friction and Evil Nine from England’s South Coast to gigs around the UK; we’ll track his journey from fan to one of the UK’s leading experimental electronic music producers, and visit the spots he used to flyer for various events along the seafront.

Although they’ve largely changed or disappeared, and things look a little different now, there’s no denying the fact that there’s No Place Like Brighton.
