In 2001, Wally Deinit, a father of two, was shot dead outside his North Vancouver home. Once successful, Wally had fallen into debt and tried to blackmail associates over missing money—leading to his murder.

This killing is later connected to a 1993 cold case: the execution-style murder of drug dealer Joseph Gaja in Vancouver. Rookie cold case cop Lee Bergerman reopens the Gaja case and identifies Mickey Smith as a suspect, possibly motivated by a rumored affair between Gaja and Smith’s wife.
