I remember crediting IShardI in some really nice megacollabs before, which were "Midnight Wish" and "Caput Mundi". However, searching over my channel, I have actually uploaded a solo by them before too. That was "niflhel" which also looked really good. It was a remake, so it's nice to see a really original solo by this creator now.

"Midnight Thoughts" is made with a song by twenty one pilots, which is obviously not available on Newgrounds. There is a remix that works fine, though. The song choice of this level is quite important, as that's what sets the stage for the level's unique atmosphere and theming. It starts off with a slow part on a rainy street before you reach the first climax at 0:20. This transition is done by falling into the puddle, after which there are two fast-paced parts with many crazy effects. At 1:06, you get out of it and back to the street again, making for a nice circular composition. This is a simple idea that is executed well and ties everything together. I mentioned the effects, which capture the intensity of the climax nicely, but there is also a lot of nice art, especially in the first two parts. Visually, I don't really have any complaints for this, aside from the fact that there are only 3 parts (with unique visuals), but only because I'd love to see IShardI cook even more.

The gameplay is quite tricky, and as such, I could see it getting a Hard Demon rating. In the aforementioned slow part, there aren't any particularly hard timings, but due to the icon being hidden, it ends up being harder than it looks. I'm not quite sure why IShardI chose to hide it. However, I'm sure it has some thematic meaning. In the climax, it speeds up a lot with many quick transitions, which requires a decent amount of practice and memorization to get down. If this isn't usually your cup of tea, it's unlikely you'll enjoy playing it. Personally, I really wanted to do it just because of how cool the visuals are. All in all, this deserves at least an Epic rating, and I personally have some hope for a Legendary rating.
