Aesthetically based on the cult Mosrite guitar brand, the MR-Modern Baritone is a quirky offset axe that – for €349 – could just be the best way to take your first steps into the world of baritone guitars.

I chose the MR-Modern Baritone for my first real try with one of these low-end monsters because, for the price, it has some pretty fantastic specs and features. Where else can you get things like stainless steel frets, an ebony fingerboard, locking tuners, glow-in-the-dark side dot inlays, a Graph Tech TUSQ nut, and a Wilkinson VS-50 II bridge for €349?
The goal of this video is to showcase the MR-Modern Baritone in as many musical styles as possible from the perspective of a baritone newbie – which is exactly what I am!
So, we’ll play some low-tuned metal and some ambient clean stuff, of course… but what about more standard genres? Can you play classic rock and indie on a baritone? What about blues, funk, pop, country, punk rock, and so on? There are playing samples of all of these genres and more here for you to enjoy. Watch on to see how the guitar copes with all of it!

My setup was as follows: I ran the guitar into my Hughes & Kettner Black Spirit 200 head, also using my Fender Tre-Verb for reverb/tremolo sounds, my Greer Lightspeed for the overdrive, and my Revv G3 for the heavy distortion sounds. The amp went from the Red Box DI straight into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, which went into Logic Pro X. That's it. No post-processing on the sounds was done.
