In this episode, you will see how cellular geogrid is made – a material used for reinforcing unstable soils. Cellular geogrids are widely used in road construction, parking lots, slope and embankment stabilization, as well as in retaining wall structures. The advantage of this solution is the ability to use various aggregates and reduce investment costs.
A visit to the production plant of Geo Globe Polska in Mikołów will allow us to learn about the manufacturing process of Geomax and Smartmax geogrids. Production begins with the processing of polyethylene – an environmentally neutral material suitable for use in protected areas. The granulate is dried and then plasticized in an extruder and formed into tapes, which are perforated using a 250-ton press. Waste is recovered, making the production process environmentally friendly.
The finished tapes are cut into strips and ultrasonically welded into sections resembling a honeycomb. Each product undergoes strength testing and is then stored, ready for transport.
