This is the first episode of the new series called Portable Sessions. During the summertime visit to my home city Istanbul, I decided to take a pair of portable turntables with me, and record a vinyl set episode with some amazing views in different parts of the country. My first stop is Burgazada, or shortly Burgaz, which is the third largest of the Princes' Islands in the Sea of Marmara, near Istanbul, Turkey. Kornelia Binicewicz aka Ladies on Records, a record collector, DJ and an anthropologist of culture who also lives in Burgazada, is playing with me in this session. Ladies on Records is a curatorial venture. Its primary focus is female music caught on dusty records and tapes, in the hidden archives and back catalogs of the music labels from around the world. Throughout 5 years of digging in records and meeting forgotten or unrecognised female singers, she also managed to dive in the back catalogues of old Turkish labels. She curated “Turkish Ladies. Female Singers from Turkey 1973 - 1988” (Epic Istanbul).
Special thanks to Nükhet Sirman and Sidar Bayram for their hospitality.
Big shout out to Yemeksepeti Banabi, who's supporting this series! Since this channel doesn't make any money out of Youtube and ads when it comes to vinyl set episodes, it's very vital for us to get support from brands. So, thank you Yemeksepeti Banabi.
