These instruments were an incredibly generous gift, typically a set like this could cost $10k+! (He donated complete sets for cleft lip and palate too). On medical missions most of us surgeons bring our own instruments, and also there are sets that we have purchased through fundraising efforts, but during these busy trips with dozens of surgeries in one day, instrument trays are so precious. Once I go through everything, we’ll pack them in our check-in luggage, and when we arrive at the hospital, they will get cleaned and sterilized before use.
