Do you know what it means to be “credit invisible”? If you don’t, you’re not alone! In this episode of Your World on Money, Andini asked Gen-Z if they know what it means to have invisible credit, and most of them had no idea.

Surprisingly, 49 million people in the U.S. don't have a credit history. This means no loans, no credit cards, and trouble renting places. This phenomenon has consequences for 3 main groups: young adults just starting out, immigrants new to the United States, and retirees who've stopped using credit altogether. Having no history can prevent members of these groups from opening lines of credit, securing loans, or looking financially trustworthy to banks and landlords.

Luckily our friends at Experian have some solutions: try becoming an authorized user on a family member's credit card, start using your own secured card, where your deposit sets your credit limit, and talk with a credit institution about what your options are. There are also tons of online resources to help you out! And we’ve got your back.
