This is a song written about Mexico "border blaster" radio stations when AM radio was king. All Mexican radio station call letters begin with X call letters and the X stations used to be heard everywhere because the Mexican government granted licenses with no wattage ceiling. Some would transmit at up to 500,000 watts. The US established 50,000 watts as the maximum in the 1920s. WLS in Chicago is 50,000 watts and you can hear it in Houston; it reportedly reaches upto 38 states with skywave bounces, so that might put into perspective what a station transmitting 10 times that amount of power would do. You could pick up the Mexican radio stations just about everywhere in the US (maybe not so much the NE depending on conditions and bounce) and even into Canada, it would just bury everything else. KDRC in Houston was on a close frequency and they would get stomped on and had to move frequency. ZZ Top Album Chronology - Classic Southern Rock Playlist. Do you remember back in nineteen sixty-six?
Country Jesus, hillbilly blues, that's when I learned my licks

Oh, from coast to coast and line to line, in every county thereI'm talkin' 'bout that outlaw X, it's cuttin'
through the air

Anywhere, y'all, everywhere, y'all
I heard it, I heard it
I heard it on the X

We can all thank Doctor B who stepped across the line

With lots of watts he took control, the first one of its kind

So listen to your radio most each and every night

'Cause if you don't, it's sure you won't get to feelin' right
Anywhere y'all, everywhere
I heard it, I heard it
I heard it on the X
[end]
Track 8 from their fourth album "Fandango" released in 1975 copyright London Records. The three song set on side one was recorded live at The Warehouse in New Orleans, a legendary venue that was host to many of the greatest bands of the seventies. No studio overdubs or enhancements were added and it wasn't edited in any way so it's exactly as it went down on that magical night. The rest of the albumconsisted of new original songs. It was a worthy follow-up to their breakthrough album "Tres Hombres" released two years prior. The only single "Tush" reached No. 20 on the Billboard chart and the album reached No. 61 in Australia, No. 60 in the U.K. and No. 10 on Billboard. It achieved Gold status in the U.S. and went Platinum in Canada. Recorded from the original '75 vinyl issue. Written by Billy Gibbons & Dusty Hill and produced by Bill Ham. RIP Bill Ham & Dusty Hill.
