Any artist who’s starting out struggles to get traction. We’ve tried a lot of angles and lately it’s been playlists. So far we’ve got a few with good results but largely it’s a struggle. Why, free tier, token payment and more it doesn’t seem to matter, 100’s of submissions later [we’ve released a lot of music] we get glowing rejections and that’s it. If you’re making music that doesn’t fit in a generic box playlisters won’t touch you. But maybe they don’t really playlist many artists. They say they love what we do but doesn’t fit their playlist style. I get that with what we do, it’s a bit #goth #darkwave #coldwave #postpunk but all those influencers combined. But not necessarily in the same song. This latest one we’ve got #triphop vs #amywinehouse. Yes we’re confusing! So I f you’re playing around the outside of micro genres good luck, you’ll be spending time and money getting rejected, even if they say they love your work.. Our solution is to use the rejections for direct marketing and it’s getting us more interested listeners than most other avenues.. I’d love to hear from other people about their experiences. Leave us a comment..🖤🦇
