His name is Shoichi Yokoi, survived 28 years alone in Guam in a hole he dug for himself. In 1941, Yokoi was assigned to Guam shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. However, in 1944, the American forces captured Guam and almost completely annihilated all the Japanese soldiers. Yokoi and a few others went into hiding in the jungle, and over the years, others surrendered or died, leaving Yokoi alone. For the next 28 years, Yokoi lived in a small cave he had dug for himself on the island. However, in 1972, Yokoi was discovered by two hunters who subdued him and then handed him over to the police. After his surrender, Yokoi returned to Japan and was welcomed heroically for his determination and loyalty. He then wrote a book about his experience and lived peacefully until his death in 1997.
