Step into the haunting tale of Buckshot Roberts — a wounded veteran, a lone gunman, and a man who never wanted a fight… until it found him at Blazer’s Mill. This gritty outlaw country ballad captures his legendary final stand against Billy the Kid’s Regulators, with cinematic storytelling, gravelly vocals, and a blues-soaked western atmosphere.

🎸 A true story of grit, gunfire, and fate under the New Mexico sun.
LYRICS:
(Verse 1)
They call me Buckshot Roberts, a name I earned with lead
Rode with the Texas Rangers, wished a lot of fellas dead
Got a shoulder full of buckshot, from a fight I left behind
Makes me hold my rifle funny, can't raise it past my side
I ride a stubborn mule, 'cause a horse just ain't my style
In the Ruidoso valley, just tryin' to live a while
Yeah, a quiet man's a hidden man, with a past he don't confess
Just wanted to be left alone, I ain't askin' for no less.

(Chorus)
But down at Blazer's Mill, where the dusty river flows
That's where fate came callin', how the story goes
Stood my ground against the Regulators, one man against the pack
Yeah, I'm Buckshot Roberts, and my Winchester talked back!

(Verse 2)
Sold my little ranch, I was fixin' to move on
Just waitin' on a bank check, to get me out 'fore dawn
But the check wasn't what I found there, nah, what I found was The Kid
And his whole damn gang of killers, wishin' I was dead
Frank Coe sat down beside me, said "Roberts, give it up clean"
I knew their kind of justice, a rope and a shallow scene
I said, "Son, I ain't surrenderin', not to the likes of you"
And my Winchester started singin', before the talk was through.

(Chorus)
'Cause down at Blazer's Mill, where the dusty river flows
That's where fate came callin', how the story goes
Stood my ground against the Regulators, one man against the pack
Yeah, I'm Buckshot Roberts, and my Winchester talked back!

(Bridge)
Bowdre fired his Colt, the lead tore through my gut
My shot hit his belt buckle, sent him sprawling in the rut
Wounded but still firin', as I stumbled to the door
Shot Middleton in the lung, tore the finger off George Coe
The Kid came rushin' forward, thought my rifle was all dry
But a rifle butt to the jawbone, sent him off to sleep a while
Barricaded in that house, blood drippin' on the floor
Grabbed a single-shot old Springfield, and settled up the score.

(Verse 3)
Their leader, Dick Brewer, was screamin' in a rage
Hid behind a stack of logs, to turn the final page
He fired a shot into the darkness, saw the powder cloud and smoke
When his head popped up to fire again, that's when my rifle spoke
One shot, clean through the eyeball, he never made a sound
The rest of them just scattered, left their boss there on the ground.

(Outro)
They found me the next morning, as the sun began to rise
Buried me right next to Brewer, beneath those New Mexico skies
Two men who fought for nothin', now for nothin' they both lie
And that check I came to Blazer's Mill for... hell, that check never arrived.
Just a story whispered... when the wind begins to blow...
'Bout Buckshot at the Mill... a long, long time ago...
