In a time when stories evanesce into myth and legend and lands have long forgotten names, a warrior appears on horseback as dusk turns to night. He descends towards an ancient stone circle surrounding a pit of fire. Within this ring of monoliths, the flames illuminate an unconscious man lashed to a stone pyre. His name is Olaf and he waits to be burned alive. As the warrior approaches with a flaming torch, Olaf rouses from his torpor and recognizes the warrior like his brother Ulfric. Endowed with magical powers, Ulfric soon reveals the true horror of Olaf's endless confinement in a prison beyond the physical world.
