Depeche Mode is a pioneering English electronic music band formed in Basildon, Essex, in 1980. Originally founded by Vince Clarke, Martin Gore, Andrew Fletcher, and David Gahan, the band played a crucial role in the development of synth-pop and electronic rock, becoming one of the most influential and enduring acts in modern music history.

Their early sound, defined by catchy synthesizer melodies and minimalistic arrangements, evolved over the decades into darker, more complex productions that fused industrial, gothic, and alternative rock elements.
