Mackie CR5 BT and Presonus Eris E4.5 are direct competitors on the budget studio monitor market. Mackie is slightly bigger and has bigger woofer than Presonus but has the same power from the amplifier (50W total). The good news on Mackies side is that it is Blutooth enabled which is always nice. Build quality is a bit better in Presonus but not by much, I also like the looks of E4.5 more as well.
So how they compare soundwise? To be honest I expected Mackie to sound worse than what I have found listetning to them as they are enjoyable to listen, with full and extended if a bit warm sound. The bass is deep if a bit loose and boosted in mid and upper ranges, deeper than in E4.5 for around 10Hz of extension. Presonus on the other hand has bass that is better controlled and better integrated with the rest of spectrum. Midrange of Mackie is on a warm side of neutral with slight nasal coloration when compared to more neutral E4.5. Presonus sacrifices some warmth for precision and focus. Top is equally good in both, sweet and nicely detailed. Both can be used on extended periods withouth fatigue.
To sum it up, if You look for enjoyable speakers to music listetning than Mackie CR5 BT may be a good choice for You, but if You look for more neutural and balanced speaker than Presonus is better choice. what do you think?
