Palestinians celebrated in the streets of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza as a much-anticipated ceasefire deal came into effect at 11.15 am local time after a three-hour delay.

In the initial six-week phase of the deal, 33 of the remaining 98 hostages will be exchanged for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. Hamas released the names of three female hostages who it said would be freed on the first day of the ceasefire: Doron Steinbrecher, 31, dual British-Israeli citizen Emily Damari, 28, and Romi Gonen, 24
