summer song sports secret sample! 😳 on Sabrina Carpenter’s smash “Espresso”, there are four “official” songwriters according to Songview/BMI, who stand to split millions of $ in publishing royalties for the rest of their lives. But arguably there’s a 5th songwriter, who was paid less than 10¢ for his contribution…is that fair? 😥 Splice and related royalty-free, pre-cleared sample resources with permission-free beats and loops have been around for decades, with sample CDs going back to the late 80s/early 90s; the creators of the loops generally get a flat fee and/or a percentage of the revenue from sales of their loops, but do not get publishing from the songs that *use* their loops. In this case, the sample used for “Espresso” cost the producers/songwriters approximately 10¢. what a time to be alive! 💐 [P.S. I have a few packs on there too, search LUXXURY “Dusty Disco Discoveries” on Splice.com] ✨On the new One Song episode we dig into our listener mailbag and discuss the songs of the summer, download One Song now wherever you get yr Podcasts!✨
