The remote end has an XBee radio, Sparkfun breakout board, custom board with voltage dividers, up to four flexible sensors (i.e. variable resistors), a plastic enclosure, and some batteries.
The base, in the metal box with the antenna, has a matching XBee radio attached to an Arduino Uno microcontroller and a DMX plug breakout board.
The desk lamps are plugged into a commercial DMX theater light controller.
Custom software on the Arduino reads the XBee serial data frames and
controls the LEDs on the base and the DMX lights. The Arduino in the base can be plugged into a laptop via USB for uploading and debugging the software.
The remote will be on a dancer who will be able to control some theater lights with arm and leg movements.
