This was for CHARITY! Ms Crow was invited by Pavarotti to sing in his charity concert to benefit the children of war-torn areas of the world.

I know some opera fans have a major problem with this performance. Please keep in mind that she herself would never claim to be an opera singer, and that this aria is clearly outside her vocal range.

This was simply a response to an opportunity to perform with the great Pavarotti in one of his charity concerts. Her choosing to sing a classical piece - in Italian - shows her openness to move outside of her comfort zone. Other "pop" performers at these concerts chose pop songs, in which Pavarotti graciously participated.

I hope those who find this performance musically distasteful will keep in mind how and why it took place, and that its ultimate aim was to raise money for the children of war.

For what it's worth, I've seen interviews of her from after she did this performance, and she says how she was absolutely terrified to sing this with Pavarotti. Look at her move right at 0:52 in the video. I think that's a great gasp of relief that she made it even that far.
