Slowmotion Livestream, better known among locals as Matevž Kovačič, hit the Slovenian alternative music scene in March with two excellent EPs that raised dust in the listening rooms of all curious heads. The first, “From Beak To Bone”, set a new level for Slovenian trip-hop music and mixed seemingly endless influences from all the other genres into it, which caught the attention of critics and earned the product dazzling reviews. The second, “Memory Collapses Time”, flipped the record and removed all the drums; what was left, however, was cleansed, fragmented, very thoughtfully guided ambient music that could be placed alongside modern atmospheric giants such as Tim Hecker and Ben Frost.
“Rituals” has now been released as the last in the trilogy of promised EPs. The album with only one song, which clocks over 22 minutes, presents Matevž in his most introspective light. The mini symphony, which seems to hide hours and hours of ideas in its duration, vibrates, flows, rises and calms down like an elusive animal. If the first EP bounced around the listener with rhythms, the second plunged him into a vast ocean of sound, the third EP simply lets the listener float in an undefined universe of colors.
