First up was a guided tour of the National Congress of Argentina. This is something that we had been wanting to do for ages, but our dates hadn't lined up with the guided visits up until now. The tour itself is free of charge, but they only take up to 30 visitors, and you must have ID on you. Remember that this tour can be cancelled on short notice if the congress is in session. The guided tour itself was very informative and thorough - we were surprised at how much we got to see during our visit!
Another place that we also visited for the first time was Barolo Palace. This building is an iconic landmark that offers panoramic views of the city. Construction was completed in 1923 and for many years, it stood as the tallest building in all of South America! The unique thing about Palacio Barolo is that it was inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy. It's an architectural representation of the narrative poem.
Aside from that, we also revisited our favourite steakhouse, Parrilla Peña. Plus we enjoyed plenty of cafe hopping around the city, because when in Buenos Aires, you need to start your day with cafe con leche and medialunas! We hope you enjoy our Buenos Aires vlog for some ideas of what you can get up to with 2 days in the city.

2 Days in BUENOS AIRES Travel Vlog | Visiting Barolo Palace & National Congress of Argentina! 🇦🇷
🇦🇷 Buenos Aires Bucket-List Adventure: Congress Tour, Legendary Steak & City Panoramas
Join us for a whirlwind day in BA, ticking off long-standing bucket-list items, indulging in classic Buenos Aires breakfasts, sinking teeth into our favourite neighbourhood steakhouse, and conquering a bird’s-eye-view climb up the iconic Barolo Palace. Here’s the play-by-play, in the order it happens:
Bucket-List Congress Visit
– We’ve walked past the Argentine Congress countless times, but today we finally go inside!
– Guided tours run Mon – Fri at 12 pm & 5 pm, free with valid ID (passport or DNI), max 30 people. Arrive early!
– Marvel at the grand dome, imposing chamber & historic halls — a truly powerful atmosphere that commands respect and reflection.
Breakfast at 36 Billiard Club
– Kickstart the morning with medialunas con café con leche (flaky croissants & milky coffee) and fresh OJ.
– High-ceilinged, classic porteño café vibes set the tone for the day.
Guided Congress Tour
– Our expert docent leads us through hidden chambers & marble corridors.
– We reflect on the weight of democracy as we wander past deputies’ benches and stained-glass windows.
Empanada Pitstop
– Quick snack break at a nearby corner – the empanadas are gone before you can say “¡Salud!”
Legendary Lunch at Peña Steakhouse
– Home of our favourite bife – thick, juicy rump steak grilled to perfection.
– Generous house salad (“a little grass”) and world-class Malbec make for an unbeatable combo.
– Staff recognise us after five years – that neighbourhood warmth never gets old!
Classic Porteño Dessert
– Granizada ice cream drizzled with dulce de leche, finished off with crunchy wafers. Pure gluttony. 😋
Morning Ritual – Medialunas, Round Two
– Back to basics the next day: still can’t get enough of buttery croissants, café con leche & OJ at sunrise.
Palacio Barolo Lighthouse Climb
– We’ve admired Barolo Palace from the street for years – now we tackle its 160 narrow steps (no elevator!) for 360° city views.
– Bring water, your ID and your courage — the final spiral staircase is tight!
– From up top we spot:
• Congress’s glittering dome
• La Boca stadium
• Across the Río de la Plata to Colonia, Uruguay
Overnight Bus Home
– Eleven hours of reclining seats later, we return to our countryside “home base” — zombie mode activated!
Kitchen Restock & Freeze-Ahead
– Unload groceries, pack the freezer with pizzas, pastas and ready-meals.
– No more daily trips to town for a while — we’ve fuelled up for the next round of property projects.
