Obviously, they were shocked. They've never seen that man before in their life. How cold a stranger ask them for money. Although he did clarified that he lost his wallet and needed money to get home.
They only made $20 that day so far. And they've been out since 3 pm. They go home at around 10 pm sometimes midnight.
The man offered to exchange his sales book and although they didn't want the book, they still found $140 to let him borrow. With no way of knowing whether he'd pay them back.
The man then offered to help them sell yams. They sell about 10 yams per day. Which isn't a lot. He told them that he'll help them sell out everything in an hour.
He is very charming. He soon gathered a crowd. Asking them to guess the weights of yams. If they guess it right, they get it for free. If they are close, they get a discount and if they aren't they buy 2. Sales came in fast.
The couple was elated to see everything sell out. The man said that his leg was a result of a childhood illness. I'm not sure how to translate it. The woman is a result of brain injury. His only regret is not working hard enough in school so he could provide a better life for his wife while his wife feels bad to see him work so hard for them. She can't walk. And while he has trouble move his legs, he still can so he helps her out with lots of daily tasks.
The man assured his wife that things would only get better. It's such a heartwarming sight. You can see how much he adores his wife.
The man then pulled out the money they gave him telling them he was only kidding when he said he lost his wallet. He also gave the man $2000 telling him to spoil his wife. A very generous man. Now you see why he would ask them such a strange question at the start. He wanted to see if they were kind hearted people.
